Read the financing mix

Partech reports US$2.41 billion in African tech equity funding across 462 deals in 2025. Equity rose 8% year on year, while debt reached US$1.64 billion, up 63%. These are historical market figures, covering technology and digital businesses under the report’s methodology.

Our perspective

For Monodya, the useful question is what type of capital the underlying business can support. An expanding loan book, an unproven software product and a cash-generating operating asset have different financing needs. A larger funding total does not make those distinctions less important.

Test the funding horizon

Consider an illustrative business seeking 12 months of funding whose next meaningful commercial milestone is expected in 18 months. The plan contains a financing gap. We would ask whether the milestone can be brought forward, spending adjusted or the full requirement funded. The quality of the opportunity depends partly on how that gap is addressed.
